The Midsummer Solstice (also known as Litha [Pagan], Gŵyl Ganol yr Haf [Welsh Witchcraft], Alban Heruin, [Caledonii or the Druids] and Alban Hefin [Anglo-Saxon Tradition]) occurs (depending on where you are on the planet) in the Northern hemisphere June 19-23 and in the Southern hemisphere December 19-23 when the Sun moves into Cancer (a feminine water sign). All life on our blue planet Earth depends upon the presence of water, and as the also life-giving Sun moves into Cancer at the Midsummer Solstice, the intimate association of this Sabbat with a cosmic celebration of Life is revealed. Celtic Goddesses honored at Litha include Novala of the Waters (Mother of Water through whom we are cleansed and immersed into the fullness of the Divine Feminine Mysteries), Morgen Gliten (who brings rain to Avalon) and Domnu (Lady of the Oceans from whose depths all life sprang).
