Raven 17
In Avalonian Witchcraft, the Celtic-Welsh Otherworld is known as Ynys Afallach (Isle of Apples) and Ynys Afallon (Isle of Avalon), the names derived from Old Welsh "abal" ("apple") and Middle Welsh "aval, avall" ("apple") respectively. Famous for its enchantingly beautiful apples, the modern name Avalon comes from the Modern Welsh word "afal" ("apple"). The magical and blessed Isle of Apples is presided over by nine women, the Queen Witch among them being Sorceress-Priestess Morgan Le Fay.
Apple, the sacred tree under which the Unicorn lives, symbolizes love, healing, stunning spiritual purity and immortality. A symbol of garden magic, an apple enables its possessor to enter into mystical communion with the Land. Called the Food of the Dead and a symbol of the soul, on Samhain apples are also placed on the ritual altar or buried as an offering in dedication to those who will be reborn in the coming year.
