Mysteries Of The Flame Witch's Ladder

כ"א בטבת תש"ע
Grael 23

Created within sacred space, this Mysteries of the Flame Witch's Ladder is handbraided in the fiery colors of ruby handdyed handspun banana yarn and red ribbon interwoven with black ribbon. Nine gold-streaked red beads (in the tradition of Celtic witchcraft), twenty-two knots (in the tradition of Jewish letter-kabbalah), a copper priestess pentacle charm and a copper star of David charm adorn this mystically magical tool of the Dark Divine Feminine.

Ruby opens up the ability to "see through the physical to reveal its Divine source."

Red strengthens the lifeforce. The Gold streaks weave love dripping with the sweetness of Divine consciousness through it.

In Black beats the mysterious heart of the Divine Flame.

The priestess pentacle and the star of David unify and bring into manifest harmony the feminine and masculine principles of the Divine Universe.

Measuring 54 inches, this one of a kind witch's ladder comes beautifully packaged with a small surprise gift included.

May be purchased at WITCHCRAFTS by Liorah Lleucu.

One Yule Light

כ"ו בכסלו תש"ע
Shamash 28

This is the handcrafted candle I am lighting for Yule. "Scented with traditional Yule fragrances of Pine, Cedar, Oak and the warm essence of Cinnamon, the fragrance is completed with a a bit of smoke from the fire. The smokey, woodsy and traditional fragrance of this Yule Log Candle will fill my sacred place with a very Yule illumination. Each candle is adorned with a silver Holly charm and tied with festive red and green ribbons."

Yule - Lighting The Coel Coeth

כ"ו בכסלו תש"ע
Shamash 28

The Lesser Sabbat of the winter solstice (namely Yule, Geul, Giuli, Meán Geimhridh, Lá an Dreoilín, Modranicht, Alban Arthan, ...) in the northern hemisphere of the earth (my location) falls after sunset on the evening of December 21. This date is the seventh of Grael in the witches' calendar and the fifth of Tevet in the Jewish calendar; both dates fall within the month of the Elder Moon in the Celtic tree calendar.

On Yule and its connection to the magic circle of the witch, Mike Nichols writes:

"Ultimately, of course, the holiday is rooted deeply in the cycle of the year. It is the Winter Solstice that is being celebrated, seed-time of the year, the longest night and shortest day. It is the birthday of the new Sun King, the Son of God -- by whatever name you choose to call him. On this darkest of nights, the Goddess becomes the Great Mother and once again gives birth. And it makes perfect poetic sense that on the longest night of the winter, 'the dark night of our souls', there springs the new spark of hope, the Sacred Fire, the Light of the World, the Coel Coeth." At the Winter Solstice, the Circle is not yet a Circle; it is a Point. Specifically, it is the point at which spiritual energy manifests itself into the physical world. It is the divine spark, the sacred seed, the single cell, the incarnation, the universe in a mustard seed. In some ways, the Point is more inclusive than the Circle, since the Circle always implies a boundary, and a separation of that which is outside from that which is inside. The Point, however, can symbolize the All. At the Winter Solstice, we bless and purify this tiny dust-mote of Being, this Birth of the Circle, which is also All That Is. The Circle Is A Point.

Thus, Yule is the perfect sabbat in which to ground and from which to cast a magic circle in and with sacred time. Blessed be our circles this Yuletide, every one, with the amazing sacred power and joy of Yule -

- the Hebrew word for the redemption of humankind's collective consciousness is called Geulah (גאולה). The Germanic and Northern European words for Yule - Geul and Giuli - would be spelled in Hebrew גאול and גאולי. The Hebrew shoresh (three letter root) of all these words is גול (gule, yule) meaning rejoice! and express joy!

Have a blessed and deeply joyful Yuletide season! So mote it be! אמן

Festivals Of Fire In Time

כ"ו בכסלו תש"ע
Shamash 28

In follow-up to Through the Fires of Time (as posted on my blog Walking on Fire), there are four festivals of fire in stellar time. These are the Greater Sabbats, the High Holy Days, of traditional Celtic witchcraft.

The four Fire Festivals can occur anywhere between 29-59 days following the preceding solstice or equinox. Apices of feminine power in time, these sabbatot are Imbolc (between Yule and Ostara), Beltane (between Ostara and Litha), Lughnasadh (between Litha and Mabon) and Samhain (between Mabon and Yule).

The Lesser Sabbats of the solstices and equinoxes (namely - Mabon, Yule, Ostara and Litha) are yearly lunar power points linked to the earthly feminine biological cycle. While times of imbalance in the solar cycle, they are times of power for the feminine Earth.

The Lesser Sabbats ground us with the full feminine power of the Earth Mother. The Greater Sabbats, the cyclical Fire Festivals in the wheel of the pagan year, expands our consciousness into the otherworlds of the heavens, and fill us with the full power of Goddess.

Lemurian Inner Earth Mystery

כ"ח ברמחשון תש"ע
Phasma Priscus 29

In follow-up to my entry In The Cauldron Of Inner Tradition on my blog Walking On Fire, an interesting synchronicity of note - also Wednesday of this week I received my Lemurian seed crystal pendent. On the ancient Lemurian race of occult legend:

It is believed that these Lemurian Seed Crystals were left by the Lemurians, an ancient race that seeded our planet eons ago; who departed from earth when conditions became too inhospitable and life could no longer be sustained. The legend goes that the vast majority of Lemurians left planet earth for other star systems while others elected to remain and continue to dwell in other dimensions of our "inner" earth's system, acting as guardians and protectors for the seed of our human race. It is these "inner" earth dwellers who are thought to be responsible for the discovery of these Lemurian Seed Crystals at this time. It is also thought that the Lemurian dwellers of "inner" earth continue to maintain a clear and conscious telepathic connection with their fellow Lemurians who traveled eons ago to other star systems through the crystals.

Divine Paradox Spell Pouch

י'ו בתשרי תש"ע
Blodlessing 17

My new exquisitely handcrafted Divine Paradox dark goddess spell pouch was acquired under the powerful blessing of the full harvest moon. It's a truly magnificient treasure which has found me.

Measuring 5 inches wide by 9.5 inches long, this bag is made from black dupioni silk shirred at the top and the bottom. The inside is fully lined with a mystically magical cotton cabbage rose print of red and black. There is a very Victorian frill of black lace with spider webs and bats along the top. The bag is tied with a deep, blood red velvet ribbon. The seams are stitched and serged, adding a beautifully endurable strength to the bold loveliness of the pouch.

Power Of Life And Death

ג' בתשרי תש"ע
Blodlessing 4

We all have heard the cliche - the greater the power, the greater the responsibility. So it is among witches as well. With greater magical power, comes greater magical responsibility. To remain ever mindful of this obligation and to create a sense of magical alertness, I have added a wolfsbane talisman to my collection of sacred altar tools. The glass vial containing the baneful herb is fully sealed.

Sacred to witches, wolfsbane is a classic witch's garden herb. It is also deadly poisonous - and a medicine. Medicines derived from it come under Table 1 of the poison schedule.

Wolfsbane is used to reverse shapeshifting spells and for powerful focused protection. One scratch from a magically created elf-bolt is fatal to an enemy.

Though extremely poisonous, wolfsbane has controlled medicinal uses as a diuretic, diaphoretic and pain reliever. Medicines derived from it are used to treat heart failure, high fever and to relieve pain associated with neuralgia, rheumatism, pleurisy and aneurism. It has also been used to treat acute tonsilitis in children.

In wolfsbane is both the power to heal and the power to destroy contained.

Mother Of Manifest Blessing

ג' בתשרי תש"ע
Blodlessing 4

In follow-up to earlier entries (Times of Judgment And Blessing and She Who Named Him Adam), complementing the Fehu rune and the three Hebrew triplets inscribed on my Rosh Hashanah-Mabon ritual candle as previously described, I also inscribed the mother of manifestation rune, namely, Uruz (pronounced ooo-rooze, like the 'oo' as in boo!). Uruz, with the phonetic values of 'u' and 'v', means drizzle, rain and horns of blessing. It is a force which patterns and formulates reality, natural order and tradition.

It rained here today.

The Witch's Herb

ב' בתשרי תש"ע
Blodlessing 3

Basil, also know as American dittany, is commonly called the witch's herb. Dark opal basil is a spectacular variety of basil with dramatic deep purple, sometimes mottled leaves. A ancient member of the mint family, there are over 150 species of basil. I have a small stock of this gorgeous deep purple variety of the witch's herb!

In the late 1600's, in Salem Massechusetts, basil was planted as a protection against witchcraft. In ancient Greece it was believed that basil could prosper in chaos, especially when it was aligned with misfortune, poverty and hate. Magically, basil has also been planted on graves, used in love potions and flying ointments, and to banish harm, soothe tempers and attract abundant prosperity. It is a classic multifunctional protection, prosperity and love herb.

"Where Basil grows, no evil goes!" and "Where Basil is, no evil lives," the old adages go.

Dark opal basil makes a beautiful pink-purpley vinegar. To make it:

In a glass jar with one quart of white vinegar, add one tightly packed cup of leaves and stems for an infusion - more herb will strengthen the taste, but not the color. If the jar has a screw top, put waxed paper between the jar and the lid. To hasten the infusion, place the jar in a sunny window. Watching the vinegar turn color is fun. The acid in vinegar breaks down the plant material and it will begin to look unsightly. After about a month, strain out and dispose of the basil. A dwarf form of purple basil makes a lovely low border.
